I loved Phuket for SO many reasons. It has a big city and a small island feel simultaneous, the day trips are endless, and there is something for everyone! If you are looking for a balance of nightlife with great proximity to iconic spots and hidden gems, you will love Phuket.
Lodging:
We stayed in the Chaweng Modern Villas. They were beautiful villas nestled in the jungle. My favorite part was the rooftop area that had lounge chairs where you could relax and gaze out below. I would wake up early and go up there; there’s just something so peaceful about being so remote. We once saw wild Thai animals roaming below! I mentioned this Airbnb in more detail in my Planning for Two Weeks in Thailand Post.
Sights:
Freedom Beach- this beach is such a hidden gem! Don’t miss out. It’s a bit of a hike to get down to the crystal clear water, and they charge an entrance fee of a few baht, which is a mere few cents when converted to USD, but it was well worth it. There were far fewer people than on the famous beaches, and the water was so clear it was amazing!
Big Buddah- standing at 45m, this marble statue was built in 2004, and funded entirely by donations. It feels like a world of its own at the top, where you are welcomed by panoramic views of Phuket Island, dharma music, and chiming bells. Gold leaves are hanging from the trees, which for a small price, you can buy and write a message to leave your mark here.
Bangla Road – during the day, you’ll find shopping and street vendors. When the sun goes down, you’ll find a lively street with people from all over the world. Lined with bars and clubs blasting music, just walking down the road is an experience!
Eats & Drinks:
TUN-KA CAFE
Built on top of Khao Rang Hill in Phuket Town, this place has a beautiful view! On the hill, there’s a lookout point where you can see all the city lights. Not only is it an enjoyable experience, but the food is also very traditional and delicious. It’s perfect for a romantic dinner or a fun dinner with a group. Some of their dishes are quite spicy, but the menu has something for everyone.
MALIN PLAZA PATONG
We are here for almost every meal in Phuket; it was THAT good. It was walking distance from our Airbnb and had so many vendors. There was everything from fresh fruit, traditional Thai dishes, rolled ice cream, to almost anything else you could want! Not to mention everything was about $3 USD. I loved watching my food prepared in the moment right in front of me. We even got fish pedicures there!
